Choosing a Physician

It was very busy that day but everything went like clockwork. I did not have to wait long to go back for my procedure. Nurses always had time to answer my questions – good sense of team work.

The Ambulatory Surgery Department was a very pleasant introduction to your hospital's patient care facilities.

The nurses took extra care with our two-year-old son - even taking extra steps not to wake him while he was sleeping.

I came to The Baby Place for the tub and "Baby Friendly" designation. It is very important to me and why I chose Pekin Hospital.

The office staff is always so pleasant - happy to be at work and happy to help you.

I couldn't have been cared for any better. You are just the right size, just the right distance from my home.

Everyone in Ambulatory Surgery was very pleasant. They answered all my questions with ease. I have already recommended this center to several others.

My wife passed away a few days ago at our home. She had nothing but good things to say about her care. She was bedridden for nearly two years and always looked forward to the nurse visits. We appreciated everything they did. Thanks again.

Everyone is so professional AND friendly.

The nurses were exceptional. Comforting, efficient, explained everything that was going to happen. No one rushed to get me through and out the door – I was impressed.

Excellent! Was nervous about going to the emergency room but the staff was very good to me – thank you.

Choosing a Physician

Choosing a Physician Note: Physicians at Pekin Hospital are independent contractors and are not employees of the hospital unless otherwise noted under the physician's information.

Choosing a physician for you and your family is an important decision. While it might not seem top on your list when you're healthy, you will be relieved to have a physician to turn to when you're ill. Pekin Hospital offers you a choice of many experienced, caring physicians with a variety of specialties.

What should I consider when choosing a physician?

You should consider several issues before choosing a physician. First of all, location is important to most individuals. Would you prefer to visit a doctor near your home or your workplace? Perhaps you want to find a physician who is near your child's school. It is also a good idea to speak with the physician's staff before making a decision. Ask questions such as, ?How long does it usually take to get an appointment?? and ?Who will I see if my chosen doctor is temporarily unavailable??

Knowing which hospital(s) the doctor has privileges with is important. Are these hospitals conveniently located near you? Do these hospitals offer the services you or your family require?

If you are insured by a private insurance company that has a preferred provider plan, you might want to choose a physician who is in the outlined plan. You might also want to make sure that physician has privileges with a hospital that is in the plan.

You should consider a physician's specialty. Family Practice physicians can treat all of your general healthcare needs. But if you have a specific health need, you may want to visit a more specialized physician. For example, parents might take their children to a Pediatrician, a person with heart disease might visit a Cardiologist, and someone with digestive problems may want to see a Gastroenterologist. It is not unusual for different family members to see different physicians.

Finally, how long has the physician been practicing medicine? Some patients prefer a physician with many years of experience, while others value the recent training of a younger professional.
