That's why we combine the comfort of home with the personal care you need to guide you on the path. And, our above-average nurse-to-patient ratio means there are more of us to shower you with personal attention and make your childbirth experience a positive, joyous occasion.
You will get all the education and support you need to ease the transition into parenthood - whether it's your first baby or your fifth - at The Baby Place. Not too big, not too small... it's a place where you and your new family can enjoy a relaxed environment in a "personal sized" hospital that offers "personal care."
Birth, as it is meant to be, should be full of warmth and comfort in a supportive, intimate environment. At The Baby Place, we offer the latest technology to ensure the best possible care for you and your baby. Highly trained doctors, nurses and nurse midwives take pride in working with you to create a birthing plan that reflects your personal style. We believe in helping you and your family through the entire progression so you can understand and enjoy your pregnancy, delivery and "what comes after" at every stage.

What accommodations will my room have?
The Baby Place has private Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) suites, as well as Post-Partum rooms where your family is more than welcome to stay with you. Designed with your needs in mind, the LDRs feature couches for dad, rockers, and a TV, as well as CD players that are available for use in your room.
After delivery and recovery, your new family will be moved to a Post-Partum room, featuring a TV, sleeper chair and many other comforts that will remind you of home. These rooms are spacious enough to allow the nursing staff to provide each family with individualized attention.
Can my support person spend the night in my room?
Absolutely! Your support person is more than welcome to stay overnight with you in your room.
Can I keep my baby with me in my room?
At The Baby Place, we understand the importance of the bond between a mom and her baby. That's why we encourage moms to keep their babies in their room! In fact, you may keep your baby with you in your room at all times, even throughout the night. Of course, our nursery is available should you choose to spend some time resting without your baby.
Where can my family wait as I labor?
The Baby Place has a newly renovated Waiting & Play Area for your family to relax while they await the birth of your child. In addition to a warm, comfortable atmosphere, our Waiting & Play area offers a TV, magazines and toys for children of all ages.
What else can you tell me about The Baby Place?
The Baby Place has a staff of highly-trained doctors, nurses and nurse midwives. We take pride in working with each mother on her individualized birth plan, including pain relief choices.
Does The Baby Place offer prenatal, sibling, early pregnancy and breastfeeding education?
 Yes, The Baby Place offers comprehensive prenatal and sibling education, as well as breastfeeding education and ongoing support.
One-on-one nursing attention combined with the latest technology make The Baby Place an excellent choice for the childbirth experience. Our highly trained and skilled staff brings years of experience to The Baby Place. Parents must register in advance for all classes. You will be scheduled to complete the childbirth classes approximately three to four weeks before your due date, allowing you adequate time to prepare for labor with confidence. What are the advantages of taking a childbirth class?
For first-time parents, childbirth is a great leap into the unknown. You can read about it, watch videos, visualize it and hear all your friends? stories. But, until you actually experience childbirth, it?s hard to imagine. Childbirth classes are a chance to learn in-depth about what to expect and how to cope, and, at the very least, learn a few breathing and relaxation exercises and coaching techniques.
To make sure the teachers are thorough and also personal, no more than eight couples make up a session. Besides meeting other expectant parents and sharing pregnancy stories, you will spend lots of time practicing coaching techniques (videos you and your partner can take home are often included).

What can I expect on arrival day?
When you arrive at Pekin Hospital to give birth, you will be admitted to one of our new birthing suites. We have three well-equipped rooms. Two suites have whirlpool tubs for labor if you prefer. State-of-the-art technology is centrally located to help facilitate a safe delivery. The baby?s father and up to two family members can stay with you during child birth. Children under 12 should be accompanied by another adult to care for them.
If a cesarean birth is necessary, there is a fully equipped delivery room for C-sections right in The Baby Place. Your coach or partner can stay with you during the birth. During recovery, you will remain in your birthing suite.
What should I bring to the hospital?
For the mother, The Baby Place will provide soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Baby is provided with a starter kit of diapers, wipes and lotion. When you check in, please bring the following items:
Personal items (hairbrush, shampoo, deodorant, makeup, etc.) Nightgown, robe and slippers
Nursing bra if breastfeeding or a support bra if bottle-feeding
Clothes to wear home
Pillow or blanket if you prefer your own
CDs if you wish to play music during labor
Infant car seat already secured in your vehicle
Your baby book for baby?s footprints
Money for pictures of your newborn, which will be posted on the website at www.our365.com(if desired)
Weather-appropriate clothes for baby plus a blanket in cool weather
As a patient of The Baby Place, where should I park?
Pekin Hospital provides special, reserved parking for expectant mothers in the front row of the main hospital parking lot.
What should I expect after I have my baby?
After recovery, mother and baby will stay in one of our private Post-Partum rooms. Your baby can stay in your room with you 24 hours a day, and both you and baby will receive care right in your room. The baby's father and your children are welcome to visit anytime. In addition, the baby's father is encouraged to stay overnight. After recovery, family and friends can visit during visiting hours. There is a family waiting room in The Baby Place for large groups of visitors.
To ensure the safety of your new arrival, you, the baby and the baby's father will all receive matching ID bracelets to wear while in The Baby Place. These bracelets help the staff to identify you and your family. At birth, a security band is also placed around the baby's ankle, allowing staff to know your baby's location. Also, The Baby Place is privately located to allow close monitoring of visitors. Using the latest technology. special security doors lock and an alarm sounds automatically when a baby nears the exit.
Before you leave with your newborn, a nurse will work with you one-on-one to make sure you are comfortable caring for yourself and your baby. Should you have any questions after you leave the hospital, The Baby Place is just a phone call away, ready to help you 24 hours a day.
When should I expect to go home?
If you have a vaginal delivery, you will probably go home in 48 hours, depending on your insurance. If you have a C-section, you will probably go home in three days, depending on your insurance. The day you leave, the baby's doctor will do a complete physical. Baby will also receive a hearing screening test, and a PKU blood test. If you desire for your baby boy to be circumcised, it is usually also done at this time.
