  
An Idea Born to Serve the Needs of Women Like You.
The idea for a women's healthcare facility at Pekin Hospital was the brainchild of Dorcas Malcome, Former Director of Radiology. She saw the need for a Women's Diagnostic Center through her position as a mammographer and through the eyes of her grandmother, who died of breast cancer. Since the Center is especially for women, it needed a woman's touch in the design and development phase. Retired nurses from the Pekin Hospital League took part in design decisions with the help of Tracy Hermann from PSA, the architects on the project.
The Women's Diagnostic Center was made possible by the financial backing of the Pekin Hospital Foundation and the Pekin Hospital League. Funds were raised from the Nearly-Nu Shop on Derby Street, the Gift Shop in the hospital lobby, and through other league activities. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of many volunteers and donors, the Pekin Hospital League was able to present CEO Doug Wilson with a check for $176,700 in January of 2002. In addition, a total of over $110,000 was raised at the annual Hospital Ball in April 2002.
